How Does The Coating Process Of PTFE Look Like?

Posted on April 3, 2017 by Fay Ortiz

What does PTFE stand for? Polytetrafluoroethylene is commonly known as fluorocarbon type of plastic. It has a non stick lining and therefore can be best used as cooking utensils in your household. The working temperature of this is generally ranging between -260C to and 205C and has the ability to form a proper surface. This also contains higher wear resistance and impact strength. The below information will guide you through the coating process of PTFE and you will be able to gain some basic knowledge on how the process takes place in each stage.

Usually, PTFE is used in the water based form for the process of coating flexible non-woven and woven material such as glass, woven wire or aramid fabrics. Most of this process is highly scientific and might not be all that understandable for the mind of a common man unless you have mastered in the art of science. However, the basic idea is that in improving the tear strength of this material, people use a variety of techniques that have been proven helpful along the years.

When speaking of PTFE coated process fabrics, the normal and natural colour of this material is likely to be of a medium to darker tan, most often remaining in the medium range. The PTFE glass fabric is known to offer the most cost effective and contains excellent electrical properties making it a highly useful material, may be even more than shade structures. The glass that is used for electrical purposes is also called the E glass, giving it more meaning.

Usually, the value of this, unlike a shade structure or any other covering material is usually measured by its thickness. The thickness of this property used in different countries tends to vary. For instance, in the USA, 0.003, 0.005, 0.006 and 0.010 inches of thickness are the most commonly used, while in the UK it is measured in metric units, a completely different approach than of the previously mentioned country. However, certain industries tend to use much heavier and thicker forms of this in order to suit their needs.

American General Electric Company can be perhaps named as the pioneer of Silicone rubber. Since its inception, it has been proven highly useful in many aspects like easy cleaning, outstanding electrical insulation, higher ability in being cold and heat resistant, food process and handling clearance for FDA, completely non-stick making life easier for the users, resistance to many common chemicals (but not all) and fungus resistance. However, this process is somewhat different to the other PTFE coated fabrics.
